Welcome back to the Summer term!
Our topic this term is called “All things bright and beautiful!” and which will link some of the work we will be covering. Our Science theme is Plants, where we will be looking at the different parts of some plants and also planting our own! In Geography we will be looking at the different seasons, the weather around us and in different countries and what life is like in these environments. In art the children will be using vegetables to print pictures. In computing, children will be looking at how to use computers safely, improving their skills on laptops and how to create a simple program. In RE, we will be finding out who created the world and why we need to look after it. The children are always encouraged to bring in relevant items of interest, books or information they have found to support the topic. Please ensure that any items brought in are named.
We will be using the story of Jack and the Beanstalk as a basis for some of our English work. We will be looking at the characters and the setting of the story, and we will be planning and writing our own Jack story. We will also be looking at writing our own descriptive poetry!
Please continue to read daily with your child and comment on their reading in their communication books. Regular practice ensures that the children make good progress. The children will be given the opportunity to change their reading book every day. However, if they have not had an opportunity to read it or if you would like them to have it for more than one night, then please keep it.
The children will bring home a half-termly spelling list to be tested on at the beginning and end of each term. It would be really beneficial to their learning if they could practise these at home. In addition they will also bring home a weekly spelling pattern to support the sounds we are learning in class. These will be tested each Friday.
The children will be working on many areas of maths during the term, including division, number bonds to 20, capacity and time. At home it would really give them an advantage if you could practise counting in fives and to help them in the recognition and reading of numbers around them, ideally numbers larger than 50.
In PE this term, the children will be focusing on multiskills and gymnastics. The children will have the opportunity to have a PE lesson with John the sports coach each Thursday. Although our P.E. days are Wednesdays and Thursdays, it would be useful if the children could have their PE kits in school every day. Please can you ensure that all items of PE kit are labelled with your child’s name. Thank you.
Show and Tell:
We will restrict Show and Tell to Tuesday afternoons. As far as possible please can this be related to our Topic.
Can you please ensure that your child has a named water bottle in school every day? Thank you.
Thank you for your support,
Lilly Baker and Jane Rowe
